The name ‘Hareswith’ dates back to the early 1960s when my mother, Pat Watson, founded
the ‘Hareswith’ Alsatian strain. At the time I was only a youngster and used to help
her out. We raised a large number of dogs, were successful in the show ring and the
name ‘Hareswith’ was synonymous with quality dogs. However, in the late 70s Mum’s
sight began to give her problems so she decided to stop breeding dogs, letting the
name ‘Hareswith’ lapse at the Kennel Club.
In 1992 I decided to start breeding dogs again and by this time as my husband and I had a number of Golden Retrievers ourselves I thought these would be the best all round family dogs.
I approached the Kennel Club to see if mum’s affix ‘Hareswith’ was still available and was delighted to find it was, so I secured the name for our Golden Retrievers.
Since that time I have carefully developed the name, trying to maintain the same high standards mum believed in. All my Goldens are shown and each of them has done very well, (see results page) The list of wins grows each year and our house is filling up with cups and plaques.
I wish mum were here today to see just what she started!
Now, several years on I successfully breed litters and the ‘Hareswith’ name lives again. The dogs have found homes in a number of places, the farthest away at the moment being Boston, Massachusetts, where a boy went and is now a regular winner in the American and Canadian show rings!!
